Government DocumentsThe Official Development Assistance Mobilization Strategy 2030 for Lao PDR National Growth and Poverty Eradication Strategy In 1996 the government of Lao P.D.R. identified their long term objective of exiting the status of Least developed country (LDC) by 2020. The National Growth and Poverty Eradication Strategy outlines the strategic framework through which this aim is to be achieved. The NGPES is central to the national development agenda. It encapsulates the essence of the Lao PDR’s approach towards realizing this objective through sustained equitable economic growth and social development, while safeguarding the country’s social, cultural, economic and political identity. Target areas of this strategy comprise the following sectors, agriculture and forestry, health, education, institutional development and capacity building with poverty focused initiatives. Vientiane Declaration on Aid Effectiveness Signed on the 29 November 2006, the Vientiane Declaration on Aid Effectiveness represents a shared recognition between the Government and its 23 Partner countries on enhancing aid effectiveness in Lao PDR. Although this Declaration does not constitute a legally binding instrument, it reflects a mutual commitment to take appropriate monitorable actions to enhance the impact of aid in reducing poverty, increasing growth, building the capacity of human resources and institutions. Ultimately, the measures in place should accelerate the achievement of the Millenium Development Goals (MDG) and the 2020 goal of exiting the status of least developed country. Download PDF The National Conference on Microfinance for the Poor in Lao PDR was held on the 22nd and 23rd of December 2005. Organized by the Microfinance Capacity Building & Research Project, the conference served as a platform to share experiences, establish common goals and positions concerning the Microfinance sector. It was also an opportunity to celebrate UN International Year of Microcredit for all Microfinance practioners, government officials, policymakers and NGO representatives working in the field. This report summarizes the points presented regarding Microfinance Regulations, the results of two Studies, ‘ Poverty Measurement of current Microfinance Clients’ and ‘Expenditure Patterns and Savings Habits of Ethnic Minorities in the remote Parts of Lao PDR’ and furthermore discuss the role of ADB in the sector. Thirteen microfinance institutions were called on to present their challenges and successes by way of case studies. Their presentations are summarized in this report. |
